Customized headboards

Before taking any step in my guest bedroom makeover project, I had to think about new headboards. The one I used so far was an upholstered one rescued from our king size bed in our master bedroom. To fit the twin beds in it I couldn't split them so I put two nightstands on both sides and it worked that way!
I wanted to create two headboards of my choice and customize them so I finally decided these two options:

Headboard nº 1: from pallet planks

Once dismantled and treated I refilled most of the holes with putty and fixed the planks with flat joints.

After painting the wall I changed my mind and just let my creativity fly away with all range of A. Sloan blue colors: Greek, Aubusson, Louis blue and finally white again. I apply clear and then dark wax on the whole surface to age the piece. The final touch is a license plate I bought during my last journey to the US.

Headboard nº 2: from old shutter

Last summer I bought this ancient shutter for 10€ in a flea warehouse. The original lock handle (or espagnolette)  was covered of many coats of paint over the years. It was probably a leftover window from an old Spanish built house.

Except a crack on the front the wood was in good shape. I repaired the crack and treated the entire piece.

I used a texture to thicken a bit and applied A. Sloan Antoinette underneath and French linen on top. I moved the lock handle from its original location and screwed back on the top right of the headboard.

I really, really like the second headboard. It looks like it's been there forever, and those colors are melting into each other. Great job!!!
